When adding fractions you first have to find the lowest common multiple in both of the denominator’s times tables. Whatever you do to the denominator you have to do to the numerator. Once the denominators are the same you can add the numerators together.

In this maths 11 plus tuition video Kat and Hugo get an email from John who doesn’t know how to add fractions. Hugo helps Kat by showing her how to find the common denominator between two fractions. In algebra we use letters to represent unknown numbers. So an algebraic equation will often look something like x + y = 5. Once we are told the value for one of the letters, the equation becomes quite easy to work out.

11+ Tuition Video - Factors and Prime Numbers
Factors and prime numbers are busted in this 11 + maths tuition video. Daniel has entered a maths competition and needs Hugo’s and Ben’s maths expertise to teach him about factors and prime numbers.
Factors are whole numbers that can be neatly divided into other whole numbers, for example 2 is a factor of 8 because 8 can be divided by 2 to make a whole number. All numbers can be divided by themselves and 1, but if a number can’t be divided by any other numbers then that means they are a prime number. Simple!
