A useful tip for English is to tell your child to read different types and styles of writing e.g factual, newspaper articles, information books, comedy, history, geography and general knowledge etc. The more reading they do, the better the chance of achieving a higher result, because they will have been exposed to new vocabulary. Another way of helping your child is to make sure that they speak in proper complete sentences, and do not use "slang" words as a shortcut - you will be amazed the difference this will make to your child's grammar!
