11+ Results Day Tips!
Posted 12th October 2020

From Friday 16th October, children who sat the 11 plus entrance exam in Birmingham will receive their long awaited results!
Waiting for the 11 plus results can be an anxious time and therefore it is important that after months of hard work, your child receives their score with the utmost sensitivity.
Aron Dhunna, Managing Director of KSOL says:
“I completely understand how parents feel during this time. I have experienced the 11 plus process three times with my own children and it is always difficult to manage emotions at this stage. I constantly reassured my children how proud I was of them, so that whatever the outcome they would enter secondary education with a positive attitude and desire to succeed.”
To help your child best deal with their 11 plus results, KSOL tutors (as parents themselves) share four top tips:

Tip 1. In the lead up to result’s day, focus on the positives. Create a list of all the benefits of both your state and selective school so that whatever the outcome, your child has something to look forward to. This can include extra-curricular hobbies, friends they’ll have and other special amenities the school has to offer.
Tip 2.Keep busy and treat it like any other day! This may sound easier said than done, but it is important that your child does not feed off your own anxiety. Make plans for results day to ensure that, whatever the result, your child is preoccupied with something fun after school. This could include a trip to the cinema, a take-away or family movie night.
Tip 3. Prepare your child on how to best handle their result at school. We encourage children not to discuss their results with friends, as this can cause unnecessary upset. Remind them that it is best etiquette to be modest and sensitive towards others who also received their results.
Tip 4. Consider your options. Now you are aware of your child’s result, you are in a fantastic position to make an informed decision about which schools you could successfully apply to well before the deadline of 31st October 2020.
Remember that regardless of whether your child gains a space, preparing for the 11 plus exam will have improved your child’s independence, confidence and helped them to realise their potential elsewhere!
