Non Verbal Reasoning (or NVR) is an 11 plus subject which is not typically taught in schools. NVR 11 plus questions often involve the use of shapes and patterns which are designed to test logic and reasoning skills.
NVR questions can cover a variety of different styles and can be displayed in many different ways to test the mental dexterity of a child's thinking. Some of this may include questions such as: rotation and reflection, series, adding and subtracting shapes, similarities, reversing colours and silhouettes, shaded fractions and hidden shapes, 3x3 grids, odd one out, cubes, analogies and missing pieces.
From our experience, some children have the ability to visualise non verbal reasoning questions very quickly, whereas others may find it more difficult. However, this should not deter anyone! The more familiar you become with the questions, the easier they are to tackle.
At KSOL, we teach vital techniques that will enable children to approach all of the different styles of 11 plus NVR with confidence. For extra practice, KSOL's non verbal reasoning activity packs include over 300 questions with guided examples, which are excellent tools for breaking down each style of question and detailing how to tackle them.
