11 plus Maths is aimed at least a year in advance of the Year 5 curriculum. This is above what the children are expected to know when they take the exam at the beginning of Year 6 and means that there are often topic areas in the 11 plus exam that children will not have come across before.
For example, children are expected to have a good working knowledge of topics like speed, distance, time, algebra, ratios, converting fractions, multiplying/dividing fractions and finding the original value, to name a few.
Children also need to demonstrate their ability to tackle these questions within worded problems. Problem solving quite often features as a section of its own in the 11 plus exam. The aim is to put a child's skills into practice and usually includes questions which are based on real life situations (eg: baking a cake, calculating travel times, working out the new price of an item after discount). KSOL's 11 plus Maths curriculum covers all bases, leaving no stone unturned - we want to ensure every child is well equipped to tackle any challenge they may face.
At the 11 plus centre, our dedicated team of 11 plus tutors provide focused personal tuition to each child. To eradicate the weak areas in your child's work, our 11 plus tutors tackle specific questions with the children, helping them to learn which methods to apply to answer these questions correctly.
The centre offers an environment for your child to work with like-minded individuals in very small tutor groups (using a 1:5 tutor to pupil ratio). We promote healthy competition and increase confidence and self-esteem.
The Year 5 Masterclass covers the following subjects: Maths, English, Verbal Skills & Non Verbal Reasoning. Your dedicated tutor will provide a monthly progress report and will be available to chat at the centres or via phone and email.
