For the majority of children, the 11+ will be their first experience of a formal exam. Preparing for this exam will therefore require regular practice, commitment and perseverance, skills which will not only set your child up for future academic success, but also prove invaluable to their personal growth.
As opposed to homework, where children can depend on parental or technological support, the 11+ exams require complete independence of individual knowledge.
When preparing for the 11+ exam, children are implementing structure into their daily lives and learning that to achieve goals requires significant time and effort. In light of this, KSOL’s personalised online programmes offer immediate feedback and explanations, which allow children to study completely independently. What’s more, we also offer a unique prize reward scheme to motivate a love for learning and further, prove that independence can reap rewards!
Having the confidence to be independent is also extremely important when transitioning into secondary education. Children will be required to take control of their own learning and organisation, keep track of coursework deadlines and pack their bags in preparation for four or more subjects a day. Studying for the 11 plus exam encourages children to exercise willpower and self-discipline, helping them progress into secondary education as self-sufficient young adults.
Studying is a form of exercise for the brain. Regular revision helps improve concentration and memory retention, allowing us to quickly access relevant information and support that memory pathway for future use.
In order to build the confidence and skills necessary to succeed in the 11+ exam, KSOL recommend no more than thirty minutes revision every evening. Getting into the habit of a structured revision routine early on will prove extremely benefical when it comes to approaching formal exams in secondary education.
Working towards a goal is proven to boost self-esteem and self-assurance. For young children who are still realising their potential, a personalised 11+ programme which allows them to track their progress and reap rewards can trigger a cycle of successful thinking.
As each KSOL member has their own online tutor, our personalised 11+ courses offer a completely unique experience, which urges children to challenge themselves every day. Recognising that with practice and application, goals can be achieved, this new self-confidence encourages children to strive towards dreams elsewhere. Many of our children excel in areas outside of the 11+ preparations, for example, individual and team-based sports or playing musical instruments.
We often hear from parents who have recognised a significant boost in their child’s confidence in extra-curricular activities and the time and energy they are willing to invest into them. What’s more, hobbies and “down-time” are also a fantastic way to relieve stress, improve sleep quality and boost overall happiness.
We hope you have found the above information useful. If you have any further questions about the 11+ preparation or how KSOL can help your child, please don’t hesitate to contact our education advisers on 0121 733 6558.
